International Mountain Equipment was founded in 1974 by Frank Simon, Bill Aughton and Paul Ross. In August 1979 Rick purchased I.M.E. from its founders. Since that time I.M.E. has become a legend, and the number one outdoor shop for serious hikers, climbers and skiers in Northern New England. Rick's passion for climbing and his love for big mountains has led him all corners of the globe, including leading his team on the successful 1991 climb of Mount Everest, the first New Englanders to do so. He has led or participated in 38 expeditions world wide with 19 expeditions to the Himalayas.

Ice Climbing, Rock Climbing, Mountaineering in New Hampshire's White Mountains. For over 30 years we have been guiding folks and teaching them the skills to be safe and proficient in the mountains. Mount Washington is our training ground, home of the 'World's Worst Weather'. We are located in the heart of the Mount Washington Valley with world class climbing locations right here in North Conway such as Cathedral Ledge, Whitehorse Ledge, and Humphrey's Ledge. Nearby is the 1000 foot tall Cannon Cliff in Franconia Notch and the famous ice climbs of Huntington Ravine on Mount Washington, Frankenstein Cliffs and Mount Willard in Crawford Notch and just a short drive away are the spectacular climbs on the shores of Lake Willoughby in Vermont. We can teach you the skills you need to enjoy the mountains for years to come.

We have been leading Climbs, Treks and Expeditions all over the planet for over 35 years. Rick Wilcox has lead 30 successful treks and expeditions with 19 to Nepal alone!
Treks to all corners of the globe
We have treks for all levels of experience and fitness. We travel well equipped with full support. Our lodging varies between nice hotels, Tea Houses, Plantation Lodges, Safari Camps and tents. Food is healthy and of the highest quality and all dietary needs can be met.

It's not just about climbing and trekking here, we know there are lots of other adventure out there. At I.M.E. we have made a commitment to supply our customers with the best technical gear and clothing available today. We deal with all of the major suppliers of outdoor products. If we don't stock the item which you need, we can surely order it for you. In addition to technical gear, we also have a great selection of Alpine Touring and Telemark equipment. Rental Gear
We rent high quality Plastic Boots, crampons, Ice axes, winter clothing and camping gear for all your mountaineering, hiking and camping needs. Be sure to make reservations early for busy vacation periods. In addition, we also have avalanche transceivers for rent. Transceivers are standard equipment for people traveling in dangerous avalanche terrain, like Mount Washington between November and April.

Our climbs and Expeditions are opportunities to use the skills we learned and practiced here in the White Mountain's in the greater ranges of the world. The twenty-plus years of outfitting and guiding we have done on these trips goes a long toward the safety and quality of your experience. Besides these scheduled trips we also run privately arranged trips for groups, climbing partners and family members. We can design trekking and climbing itineraries for people of all abilities and experience level. Wherever you want to travel and climb chances are good that we have been there before and can help you achieve your goals.
