International Mountain Equipment (IME) was founded in 1974 by Frank Simon, Bill Aughton and Paul Ross. In August 1979, Rick Wilcox purchased IME from its founders. Since that time IME has become a legend and the number one outdoor shop for serious hikers, climbers, and skiers in Northern New England.

Since purchasing IME from its founders, I have pursued my passion for rock climbing, ice climbing, and visiting the bigger mountains of the world. I have led or participated in 61 expeditions world wide with 34 expeditions to Nepal.

Over the last 28 years I have been president of the Mountain/Rescue Service, Inc. of New Hampshire. I served as secretary to the American Alpine Club under three presidents and for six years was a director of the American Mountain Guides Association.

At IME, we have made a commitment to supply our customers with the best technical gear and clothing available today. We deal with all of the major suppliers of outdoor products. If we don’t stock the item which you need, we can surely order it for you. In addition to technical gear, we also have a great selection of alpine touring and telemark equipment.

Planning a mountain adventure or maybe an expedition? Call ahead for an appointment. We can provide all of the necessary info for the simplest or most complicated of climbs anywhere in the world. Permits, gear lists, etc. are no problem. We would love to help with your plans to make sure your mountain experience is the best possible.

I have a passion for being in the mountains either hiking or climbing. Since I was 12 years old most of my spare time has been spent climbing, hiking and backpacking. I especially enjoy working with people on our treks and climbs and helping them to enjoy the total experience as much as possible. I have stayed certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid since 1973 which allows me to assist our customers and others we meet along the trails. I take care of the logistics so that our customers can fully enjoy their trip.

In 1995 Rick and I joined forces at International Mountain Equipment and in 1997 International Trekking and Climbing was born. Since that time we have been co-leaders of 27 treks/climbs in Nepal and Africa (8 Kilimanjaro). In our spare time we can be found climbing, hiking or backpacking closer to home in the White Mountains or at Baxter State Park in Maine.

“My main climbing partners were John Bragg, John Bouchard and Henry Barber…” Rick Wilcox narrates the ice climbing revolution of the Northeast in the 1960s and 1970s.
