Mt Washington Observatory Overnight
This is one of our most sought after trips, what could be better than climbing to the summit of the tallest peak in the Northeast, 'Home of the World's worst weather' and then spending the night in the world famous weather Observatory, eating and socializing with the Observers and meteorologists!
Scheduled 2012 Dates:
March 23-24, 2012
Price $495 per person.
The frequent combination of cold temperatures and high wind prevalent on the summit, especially in winter, has earned Mount Washington the title, "Home of the World's Worst Weather". The famous Mount Washington Weather Observatory was founded in 1932 to conduct meteorological observations and scientific research. In 1934 the station experienced the highest wind velocity ever recorded on the surface of the earth at 232 MPH!. Join IMCS this winter for a very special adventure as we make a one-day ascent of Mount Washington and spend the evening high above the clouds in the Observatory at the top of New England! We plan to arrive at the summit in late afternoon. Observatory staff will be on hand to conduct a tour of the facility and answer questions about the meteorological equipment and research being conducted. The Observatory will provide the evening dinner and morning breakfast. The opportunity to watch the sunrise from the summit of Mount Washington in winter is a special occasion. After breakfast we will hike back down to the AMC Pinkham Notch Camp. Course cost covers one-year Observatory membership and rental of boots, crampons and ice axe. Participants must supply their own three-season sleeping bag.
This course will run on scheduled dates and may be booked privately by arrangement. Please call for details.
Includes Dinner with the Observatory Staff, Overnight stay and tour of the Weather Observatory, Breakfast, and technical gear (boots, crampons, Ice axe).
