Ice Climbing for Newbies
For those who have never tied into a climbing rope before, and would love to try Ice Climbing. You'll learn the safety basics of the climbing system, how to belay, how to walk and climb in crampons, how to select and use an Ice Axe and how to move over a variety of moderate to steep ice. Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

For those of you who have rock climbed, indoors or out, know how to tie into the climbing rope, and how to belay. You're learn crampon and Ice Axe use and how to move over a variety of steep frozen terrain.

Steep Waterfall Ice Climbing
Now that your comfortable on Grade 3 ice, it's time to move on to the steep stuff. Learn how to move smoothly, without getting pumped! Vertical ice takes on many forms - mushrooms, bulges, cauliflower, candlesticks, chandeliers, pillars, curtains, smears, and flows. Brittle or punky, blue or yellow - it takes imagination and experience to move efficiently and confidently on this awe-inspiring terrain. You will get the chance to climb many different types of steep ice, learn to establish a resting position, and incorporate rock climbing movements into your ice climbing awareness. Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. |

Leading on Ice
This is an advanced level course for experienced climbers who feel ready for the "sharp end". Leading is very rewarding but can also be dangerous and scary if you are not prepared technically, physically and mentally. The course covers advanced anchor & belay systems, racking of gear, rope management, and route finding while on a multi-pitch climb. Day two will deal with placing screws from akward stances, using alternate protection systems, protecting the climb, not the move. We will cover advanced anchor & belay systems, single and double rope management, descending options and route finding while on multi-pitch climbs.This is a 2 day course Available Saturday-Sunday. |

Mixed climbing has gained much popularity recently. This surge of interest has lead to the development of new equipment, terminology, and techniques. In this course you'll learn how to use your axes, crampons and rock climbing techniques to conquer challenging mixed terrain. Available Friday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. |

Alpine Snow and Ice Skills
Alpine climbing requires the use of a variety of climbing skills to efficiently negotiate snow, rock and ice terrain. This course will cover snow and ice anchors, belaying, basic knots and climbing equipment. This course will involve an ascent of a multi-pitch alpine climb. Topics of instruction will include gear placements (snow, rock and ice), rope management, time management, belay techniques and route finding. After completing these climbs, climbers should be capable of moving on to more difficult alpine routes in Huntington Ravine, Tuckerman ravine and throughout the Presidential Range.

Alpine Style Climb
There are numerous classic Alpine gullies scattered throughout the White Mountains, including Shoestring Gully, Pinnacle Gully, Cinema Gully and more. You should already be familiar with anchors, belaying, basic knots and ice climbing equipment.

2 Day Glacier Skills Course
Are you planning a trip to Alaska, Mt. Rainier, the Alps or South America this summer? This two-day intensive course will cover the skills of knots, friction hitches, roped travel techniques, self arrest, snow and ice anchors and extrication techniques.
All instruction will be by IMCS senior guides with extensive climbing experience on glaciers around the world. This practical "nuts and bolts" course will focus on developing the skills you will need to safely move over glaciers and around crevasses.
This course is a must for any aspiring mountaineer. Available Saturday and Sunday |

Mount Washington Ascent
Situated at the intersection of three major storm tracks which affect the northern Appalachian Range, and rising from the surrounding lowlands for much of its 6,228 feet, Mount Washington is known for its extreme weather conditions. Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeast and the conditions above timberline are as serious as any mountain in North America. As we ascend we will discuss general mountaineering skills, winter navigation and we will be able to practice basic crampon, ice axe skills and self arrest techniques. No previous mountaineering experience is required. However, participants should be physically prepared and well equipped for a rigorous all day experience. We will meet at IME at 7:00am for a gear check and to get fitted for mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axe. Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. |

Intro to Snow Kiting
You learn the basics of what it takes to take part in this new and exciting winter activity. We'll show you how to walk through the steps of how to choose a site suitable for snow kiting, what kites are used as well as interpreting all the parts of the kite, how weather affects snow kiting and use as well as simple self rescue techniques to name a few possibilities. When the student leaves the Discovery course, the student will understand how exciting kite flying on the snow can be and will truly start to see the wonderful possibilities that snow kiting can bring to the winter recreation theatre. 3 hour course available Friday and Sunday, 9:00-12:00, 1:00-4:00 |

ALL COURSES meet at IME on 2733 Main Street in North Conway Village for gear check, outfitting, and clinic orientation. Climbers should provide a day pack, water, food for the day, appropriate clothing and transportation. (Car Pooling may be an option).
Regular clinics are $160 per day, book 2 or more days for $150 per day.
