| In May 2002 , Eric Siefer and Paul Cormier, with 2 private clients went to Bolivia to design this trip. What they found was a gold mine of 17,000 - 21,000 peaks, all very accessible . Many are quite remote and all are uncrowded. What came out of this trip was truly unexpected but remarkable. |
| The following year, (2003) IMCS ran our first expedition to this area that was open to the public. Dr. Brian Erwin and RN Fabianne Paterson organized a medical outreach segment of the trip which all the expedition participants participated in. For 2 days during our approach to Base Camp, we set up a medical clinic in the town of Chuñavi. During those 2 days we treated over 250 people, most who had never seen a doctor. Many of these people are the same people we use as crew on this trip. Cooks, porters, muleteers, etc. For many of the clients, this was the highlight of the trip. |
| In 2004 IMCS guide Paul Cormier returned once again to this amazing region. This time it was with his life-long friend and climbing partner Mike Pelchat, who many of you may know as the director of Mt. Washington Sate Park. They were invited to a meeting with the county officials there and discussed actually building a medical clinic in the town of Chuñavi, which would service not only the local population there, but service the climbing community as well. A group called the Chuñavi Fund was formed, a soon to be an official not for profit foundation committed to this project. |
| At this point, there have been preliminary blueprints drawn. They are being reviewed by a Bolivian surgeon right now. IMCS is proud to be part of this tremendous project. We realize that this will take time . During our 2005 trip we hope to include another 2-3 day medical outreach segment in the same town of Chuñavi and, depending on how things have progressed, even help with the actual building of this facility. If you are interested in helping us with this segment, you should plan to leave a few days prior to our official departure date. |
| Your participation will cost you nothing, and may even be tax deductable. What you gain will be a couple extra days of acclimatization, a unique connection with the people of Bolivia, and a LOT of good Karma. Please call us for details. |
| The 2007 trip is a go! We have three climbers currently registered but we are still looking for a couple A COUPLE OF MORE CLIMBRS TO JOIN OUR TEAM. |

before we can accept you as an expedition climber. If you have any
questions please call, e-mail or make an appointment with Maury McKinney,
Brad White or Rick Wilcox. This trip can follow a number of different
itineraries so call us and let us know what type of high-altitude
experience you want to have and chances are we can arrange a trip
to fit your interests. A nice aspect of climbing in Bolivia is that
is has peaks for climbers of all abilities and levels of experience.
Whether you have a little or a lot of high altitude experience you
can find climbs that will be challenging and rewarding. |
For climbers wishing to improve their language skills
and round out
cultural opportunities for the trip we suggest doing a home stay and
school with Academia
Latinoamericana de Espanol. They have schools in Quito (Ecuador),
Cuzco (Peru) and Sucre (Bolivia). The person to contact is Dr. Diego
del Corral and his e-mail address is info@latinoschools.com. |
