Trip Itinerary
Please note that this itinerary is a guideline only. We have run this trip by a quicker two-day approach through Quebrada Santa Cruz and a longer four-day approach through the Punta Union Pass. Although every effort will be made to adhere to it, unforeseen circumstances may force changes to be made at the last moment. Please be prepared to be flexible when necessary.

Depart US

Arrive in Lima, Peru early in the morning ~4:00am. We arrange for private transport or scheduled bus for travel to Huaraz. We stay at the Hostal Colonia. Expect two long days of travel to begin this trip. Once we arrive in Huaraz we can take time to rest, acclimitize and prepare for the upcoming climb.

Provision in Huaraz (10,300ft) and day hike Churup. Take time to get out and mix with locals and foregn travelers alike. Support local arts, crafts and agriculture.

Finish provisioning and transport to Vaqueria (13,000ft)

Start Langanuco to Santa Cruz trek
6 Langanuco to Santa Cruz trek. Camp (14,500ft) below Taulliraju and the Punta Union Pass.

Hike over Punta Union Pass (16,000 ft) and down to camp in the Santa Cruz valley.
8 Arrive Alpamayo Basecamp (14,000ft) Moraine Camp on Alpamayo with Artesonraju in the background. (click for full size image)

Carry to Moraine Camp (15,500ft) Sleep at basecamp.
10 Move to Moraine camp to sleep

Rest day Moraine Camp

Carry to Col camp (18,000ft). This is steep and risky business so be prepared to move efficiently.

Summit

Return to basecamp

Trek out to Cashapampa and transport to Huaraz. Shower and dinner.
16 Spend the day shopping and eating in Huaraz
17 Depart Huaraz on scheduled bus. Arrive in La Paz ~5:00pm for 10:30pm flights. Remember your $25 departure tax at the airport.

Arrive Home!

For climbers wishing to improve their language skills and round out cultural opportunities for the trip we suggest doing a home stay and language school with Academia Latinoamericana de Espanol. They have schools in Quito (Ecuador), Cuzco (Peru) and Sucre (Bolivia). The person to contact is
