Dates Activity
April 14 Meet at JFK Airport in New York for a noon departure on a
17.5-hour flight to Bangkok (BBK). You will be allowed (2) thirty-kilo bags.
April 15-16 Fly non stop to Bangkok, Thailand arriving at 4:00pm. Stay overnight at the luxurious Amari Hotel.
April 17 Fly BBK to Kathmandu (KTM). Our outfitter, Urgen Sherpa, will meet us at the airport and transport us to the Hotel Thamel. The Hotel Thamel is conveniently located in the heart of the Thamel shopping district in Kathmandu and is a quiet place to rest and relax.
April 18 Rest Day in Kathmandu. A chance for you to sort through your gear, stretch, relax and browse the Thamel district some more.
April 19 Rest Day in Kathmandu. A chance for you to sort through your gear, stretch, relax and browse the Thamel district some more. Meeting day for expedition leaders. Get Visa's for China all in order.
April 20 Fly South China Air to Lhasa.
April 21 Tour the Potala Palace, the ex-home of the Dalai Lama, as well as other monasteries in Lhasa.
April 22 Leave Lhasa and drive in Jeeps to Gyantse. Cross passes up to 17,000 feet. Overnight in a hotel.
April 23 Jeep ride to Shigatse. Overnight in a hotel.
April 24 Jeep ride to Tingri and overnight in the Snow Leopard hotel.
April 25 Jeep ride to Cho Oyu Base Camp at 16,500 feet.
April 26 Rest day in Cho Oyu Base Camp
April 27 Hike to Mid Camp, which is half-way to Cho Oyu Advanced Base Camp
April 28 Hike to Cho Oyu Advanced Base Camp at 18,500 feet which will be your home for the next few weeks. After arriving to Cho Oyu Advanced Base Camp we will set up a comfortable Base Camp. After some acclimatization we will start our climb up the North Ridge-North Face of Cho Oyu.
April 29 -
May 22
Between April 22 and May 15 we will establish and supply three camps. Camp I at 21,000 feet, Camp II at 23,000 feet and
Camp III at 24,500 feet.
May 23 -
May 23
Summit phase of our climb. We will leave Camp III between 2:00-3:00am and plan to summit before noon. We will then descend to Camp II. The next day we will return to Advanced Base Camp (ABC). We'll take a couple more days after this to pack up, get back to Base Camp and then on to Tingri
May 24 Leave Base Camp after cleaning the mountain and return all the way to Kathmandu. Getting from Tingri to Kathmandu requires a long day of travel. We will follow the famous Friendship Highway to the border city of Zhangmu. Here we will cross over into Nepal. Quite an experience but our experienced crew will get us through the bureaucratic mess. We should reach the Hotel Thamel in Kathmandu late the same day as we leave Tingri. We should be back in KTM by May 24th at the latest.
May 27 Rest, recuperate and pack for return home.
May 28 We will check with Thai Airlines and take the next available flight back to the USA. Thai Airlines has daily flights to BBK and then on to JFK
May 29 Fly from BKK to USA!
May 31 Return Home!
