1 Depart USA
2 Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to Keys Hotel in Moshi via hotel transportation.  Dinner at Keys Hotel.

Rest day in Moshi to hang out, explore Moshi and repack for the expedition. Your personal gear for Kilimanjaro should be packed into a mule bag; weight should be 35 pounds, for your porter. Leave your travel gear and safari clothing in a separate bag to be stored at the hotel while we are on the mountain. Dinner and overnight at the Keys Hotel.

Breakfast at Keys, followed by a 4WD jaunt to the Machame Gate, where we will begin our climb!  This first day is a gentle hike through the rain forest to Machame Hut. (10,000’)

5 Today we will climb from the forest onto the Shira Plateau (12,000’) which takes us to the zone of “weird plants” native to high mountains of Africa, fun.
6 After breakfast we will enjoy an exciting day of rugged hiking!  Scramble across the Baranco Wall and traverse below the Southern Glaciers.  Super scenery!  We will be sleeping at Karanga Valley (13,000’)climb above 14,500’ and then drop back down to spend the night at 13,000’.

We should be getting acclimatized by now and we will move up to High Camp at Barafu Hut (15,000’)

9 Today we will climb for eight hours to the crate rim. We will then descend to our campsite, just below Uhuru peak - the highpoint. If time allows we can visit Kile's Vent hole (an active thermal vent).
10 SUMMIT DAY!!!!  A short one-hour climb puts us on top of Uhuru, Africa's highest peak, at 19, 340 feet. After a summit photo session we'll descend to the upper Mweka campsite. Back in the forest onece again after a long, but very rewarding, day
11 Today we will continue our descent via the Mweka route to Mweka Gate where we will be picked up by 4WD vehicles which will take us to the Keys Hotel where we can shower and celebrate our climb!!  Overnight at Keys Hotel.

Those not going on the safari will leave for the USA today.  Those of us going on the safari our day will be taken up with a drive to Tarangire National Park. We will have lunch at the gate after which we will enjoy an afternoon game drive (best chance to see a leopard near Seronera River).  We will have dinner and overnight at a game lodge.

13 Today we drive to the Ngorongoro Crater where we will have many opportunities for wildlife viewing. Picnic lunch.  Dinner and overnight at our game lodge.
14 After breakfast we will drive to Lake Manyara National Park for one more chance to view game!  Back to our lodge for lunch and then drive back to Moshi with a shopping spot or two visited en-route.
15 Today you can pack, lounge by the pool, or explore Moshi one last time. We will transfer to JRO airport for an evening flight home.
