Frankenstein Cliffs
home to the highest concentration of classic waterfall ice routes in the White Mountains. As of 16 December the ice is doing pretty good but still thin on many of the routes and will climb a bit harder than their assigned grade.

Chia on 13 December, 2002. Most climbs in the Frankenstein Amphitheater climb a bit more difficult than their listed grade this early in the season. Top outs are thin. Cold weather is forecast for much of late next week so we'll wait and see what happens

Pegasus on 13 December, 2002.
Definitely better than last year but still thin. The Rock Finish is probably the best climb in the Frankenstein Amphitheater in the early stages of the ice season.
The Pegasus rock finish has a new two bolt anchor on the ledge to the right of the short pillar leading to the rock corner. Here, Jack Wojtowicz of River Vale NJ tops out on the climb. This climb is a fun and challenging experience that is well protected. If you haven't climbed it before you should check it out. The upper corner can be done with no tools. Leaders may opt to use one tool.
